This NT estate is just south of Kendal and within walking distance of the campsite, so we walked the couple of miles
Although tickets for the house/castle had sold by 10am we found the gardens delightful with an interesting “stumpery” ( decaying tree stumps supporting creepers etc, a fantastic vegetable garden with pristine cabbages and brassicas with virtually no cataerpillar/pest/pigeon holes at all. Out through the orchard with bee hives and obligatory meadow, and very curious/hungry chickens
Chatted to very nice volunteer gardener who had a plan to remove all the woody twigs from the Fuschia border that had overgrown last (Covid) summer. He reckoned a weeks work just on that !
Very nice typical NT chilli and pulled pork bun ( brioche too soft and disintegrated) followed by cream tea which we offset against the walk…
